Hair Sample Collecting & How to Match Colors

The arrow shows the location on the head where your hairpiece should be matched to & color sample taken from.

  1. Pull your hair back in a ponytail.

  2. The hair showing at the crown is the area your hairpiece usually will be attached, over your ponytail.

  3. Match or snip a hair sample from the crown area, not the ends of your hair. (Be sure to include a large enough amount to get good idea of the colors in your hair)

  4. Fold the sample in white paper, include a written description of your hair color, contact information, the styles you would like, payment, and mail it to me.  A photo is helpful too.

Because I carry a wide variety of colors; solid, frosted, tipped, blended and highlighted;  we are sure to find a color you will be happy with.

You choose how to match your hair with one of the following options:

Option 1: Local Customers Call to Set up a Color Match Session

Option 2: See Color Chart (monitors & printer colors will vary - these will not be exact, depending on your computer settings)

Option 3: Color Rings are Available for a Deposit or Purchase

Option 3: Mail in a Sample of your Hair or Hairpiece

Option 4: Mail or E-Mail Photos w/ Descriptions

Important tips:

  • Lighting is important when color matching, Natural Light is best, be in the sunlight if possible.

  • As a friend to help

  • Match to the top of the head, not the ends.  (hairpieces are worn attached over your ponytail, the ends do not show)

Color Charts - On-screen colors will vary depending on your monitor's resolution & color settings.  (Monitor COLORS ARE NOT TRUE) (Get PDF Reader to view PDF files).

Color Code Descriptions

There are several types of colors available to best match your hair:

  1. Solid shades - one color consistent throughout hairpiece, noted by one number (example: 27)

  2. Blended Shades - 2 or more colors blended together, noted by a dash - in the number (24B-BT27)

  3. Streaked Shades - generally equal amounts of a darker shade streaked with a lighter shade,  noted by an / slash in the number (example: 27/30)

  4. Highlighted Shades - a darker shade highlighted/frosted with a lighter shade, noted by a H in the number (example: 10H16)

  5. Tipped Shades - the ends of the hairpiece are lighter than the base area, noted by the letter T in the number (example: 2T30)

  6. Tipped & Mixed - Mixture of 2 or more colors with the ends lighter than the base, noted by a T and / in the number (example: 10/19T)

  • Torn between two colors it is generally best to go with the lighter of the two, often times the ends of our hair is lighter and it will look like that when worn.

  • Curly, braided, & gel/wet look hairpieces tend to look a bit darker due to the amount of hair styled together.

  • Never match hairpiece to the ends of the hair, unless you are planning to color the root area of your hair to match.

  • Many women often take their hairpiece to their hairdresser to ensure highlighting, frosting, retouches, and colors match.

  • No doubt your friends and co-workers will want to have great looking hair with no fuss, so why not take the color ring to the office, church, dance studio.
