Color Matching & Hair Sample Collecting

The arrow shows the location on the head where your hairpiece should be matched to & color sample taken from.

  1. Pull your hair back in a ponytail.

  2. The hair showing at the crown is the area your hairpiece usually will be attached, over your ponytail.

  3. Match or snip a hair sample from the crown area, not the ends of your hair. (Be sure to include a large enough amount to get good idea of the colors in your hair)

  4. Fold the sample in white paper, include a written description of your hair color, contact information, the styles you would like, payment, and mail it to me.  A photo is helpful too.

Because I carry a wide variety of colors; solid, frosted, tipped, blended and highlighted;  we are sure to find a color you will be happy with.

You choose how to match your hair with one of the following options:

Option 1: Local Customers Call to Set up a Color Match Session

Option 2: See Color Chart (monitors & printer colors will vary - these will not be exact, depending on your computer settings)

Option 3: Color Rings are Available for a Deposit or Purchase

Option 3: Mail in a Sample of your Hair or Hairpiece

Option 4: Mail or E-Mail Photos w/ Descriptions

Important tips:

  • Lighting is important when color matching, Natural Light is best, be in the sunlight if possible.

  • As a friend to help

  • Match to the top of the head, not the ends.  (hairpieces are worn attached over your ponytail, the ends do not show)

Color Ring - Color Ring # Descriptions

There are several types of colors available to best match your hair:

  • Solid shades - one color consistent throughout hairpiece, noted by one number (example: 27)
  • Blended Shades - 2 or more colors blended together, noted by a dash - in the number (24B-BT27)
  • Streaked Shades - generally equal amounts of a darker shade streaked with a lighter shade,  noted by an / slash in the number (example: 27/30)
  • Highlighted Shades - a darker shade highlighted/frosted with a lighter shade, noted by a H in the number (example: 10H16)
  • Tipped Shades - the ends of the hairpiece are lighter than the base area, noted by the letter T in the number (example: 2T30)
  • Tipped & Mixed - Mixture of 2 or more colors with the ends lighter than the base, noted by a T and / in the number (example: 10/19T)
    • Torn between two colors it is generally best to go with the lighter of the two, often times the ends of our hair is lighter and it will look like that when worn.
    • Curly, braided, & gel/wet look hairpieces tend to look a bit darker due to the amount of hair styled together.
    • Never match hairpiece to the ends of the hair, unless you are planning to color the root area of your hair to match.
    • Many women often take their hairpiece to their hairdresser to ensure highlighting, frosting, retouches, and colors match.
    • No doubt your friends and co-workers will want to have great looking hair with no fuss, so why not take the color ring to the office, church, dance studio.

All styles begin by pulling the desired amount of hair back into a ponytail, secure tightly with an elastic band. For longer hair pull hair through band to create a bun. Thick hair: Wetting helps create a smaller bun or creating 2 smaller ponytails one over the other.

    Clips

Open the jaw clip wide by squeezing the back of the hairpiece. Place the opened clip above the ponytail, gently move from side to side sliding the clip down to desired location. Release the clip, securing it to the elastic band.

    Drawstrings:

Some hairpieces have clips & drawstrings to attach with.  If you have a tied string inside near the clip, you probably have a drawstring with combs under the clip.

    1. Remove the clip from the hairpiece by untying the elastic string. Open the clip and gently pull the netting up, over & off clip teeth.

    2. Choose desired style (top & bottom) of the hairpiece.

    3. Pull your hair up into a tight ponytail/bun in the desired location. (this is what is going to keep your hairpiece secure, so be sure the rubber band is tight around the hair)

    4. The netting of the hairpiece faces your bun. The two combs will be pushed under the rubber band one on each side. Either top and bottom or side to side.

    5. After you have pushed the combs under the elastic band, pull the drawstrings tightly around your bun, tie & wrap strings around to the other side and tie securely, tuck ends inside netting. For extra security, use large bobby pins or clips secure to your bun/elastic band.

As my customer you one of the benefits you have is having a hair consultant. I will teach you the tricks of the trade. Over the years I have worked with may women, cheerleaders, dancers, and stunt groups to create quick hairstyles that stay on!  I can only make how to suggestions, it's up to you to take the precautions.

    Scrunchies:

These work best you're your hair is pulled back in a tight bun. Place scrunchie around bun.  Use bobby pins, and clips to secure to elastic band. I prefer to use one clip "Goody" 1" #32922 on top of the bun, in between the bun & scrunchie and a large bobby pin underneath. Secure the curlier styles over the bun with bobby pins or cute clips.

The key to secure hairpieces is a good tight ponytail. (follow steps above)

All clips can be removed from hairpieces.

The netting inside allows you flexibility to secure your hairpiece using your favorite method, sewing is not required.

Don't be the one with your hair flying off during a competition.

As your hair consultant I can teach you the tricks of the trade to securely attach your hairpiece even while dancing, tumbling, and stunting.

Ribbons/Bows/Scrunchies: You can add your teams colors and by adding ribbons tied around or woven in.  Bows can be clipped above your hairstyle. Colored scrunchies can be placed around your hairpiece.

Reversible: Many of our hairpiece styles can be flipped over and worn upside down creating a different look.  The difference is usually from a layered look to all one length hair or fuller side to side when worn. While holding the clip in your hand, simply turn it upside down, gently shake the hair into it's new position.

    Wigs

The name tag goes in the back.

Grasp the wig at the back bottom with both hands, and position the front firmly at your forehead. Then pull the whole cap back and down so that it covers your head. The wig should not cover your ears. If you have ever used a latex swimming cap, the procedure is very similar.

There are two little tabs at the ears and they should be positioned so that they are equal on both sides in front of your ears. This will let you know that your wig is on straight.

Most wigs today have a small covered wire stay sewn inside the ear tabs. These should be bent a little and curved in toward your head. When the wig is positioned correctly at the sides, press gently on the stays so they lie flat against your temples. This will give you a more custom fit at the temples. The front of the wig should be positioned right at, or slightly behind, the hairline.

If you don't have hair, place your first three fingers together just above your brow bone and where the top edge of your index finger is should approximate your natural hairline.

There are adjustment straps in the back of your wig. They may be used to tighten or loosen the wig for a comfortable fit.

    Hair Care

    • Our hair pieces and wigs are handmade from a synthetic material.
    • Your new style will arrive packaged in a net and protective plastic bag.
    • Simply remove the hairpiece from the bag and net, gently shake the hair by holding the clip/comb/net
    • You may even want to fluff the hair up around the clip as it has been packaged tightly.
    • Reversible pieces can be turned over and styled the same way.
    • You may want to redirect the hair by gently pulling the wefts of hair at the base down toward the new direction.
    • Use a wide tooth comb to comb your new style
    • Do not comb curly hair, the curls will pull apart and look frizzy.
    • Store hairpieces in their hair net, many women keep them in a box.

Wash hair in synthetic wig shampoo as often as needed in cool water.  Mix 2-3 capfuls of wig shampoo in cool water in basin and let soak for ten minutes. Rinse hairpiece in cool water thoroughly. Or follow instruction on bottle.

Mix 2-3 capfuls of wig conditioner in cool water in basin and let soak for ten minutes or spray with wig conditioner. Or follow instructions on bottle.

Do not finger, comb/brush, or pic-out hairpiece when it is wet.

Roll hairpiece up gently in a towel to gently blot water out. Hang hairpiece up, curly styles should be placed back in the hair net, allow to dry away from heat or anything that could damage it.

After hairpiece is dry, untangle curls and reform curls on your fingers as needed.

You may want to store hairpiece in a hair net or protective bag.Every time you wear the hairpiece, spray three squirts of synthetic wig conditioner and if you like add a bit of shine to your hairpiece spray three squirts of wig sheen or a small amount of wig restorer and gently scrunch the the hairpiece to distribute both products. Wait five minutes to let the hairpiece dry. Untangle any curls that got matted while wearing it, using your fingers and a large tooth comb. Reform curls on your finger and store the hairpiece back in the hair net. Allow to dry before placing it in the plastic bag.

Never use heat on the hairpiece (hot rollers, curling irons, blow dryers etc...) Heat will damage your hairpiece. You may use sponge rollers to loosen the curl. Your hairpiece has will not lose its curl or shape if you take proper care of it.

    Wearing your new style

    • Using a gum band/elastic band, brush back the front, sides, and back (as much as you can) of your hair into a ponytail at the crown or desired location of the hairpieces.
    • Style  bangs or leave pieces of hair out of the ponytail to enhance your style.
    • You can use combs, bobby pins, clips, etc.. to pin back any short hair.
    • Apply hairspray, gel, mouse or any other styling product to your hair, not the hairpiece.
    • To enhance the beauty and life of your hairpiece, avoid using styling products not made for synthetic hair.
    • Do not comb or brush curly hairpieces.  Simply hold them by the clip/comb and gently shake the curls in place.
    • Should you need to reset any of the curls, comb out a small section with a wide tooth comb and finger curl the curls back into place, spray with a set or wig spray.
    • I do offer a hairpiece & wig wash, condition, & reset service for a fee.
    • Do not blow dry or use any heated irons on hairpieces or wigs.
